I used to work on the Iridium project, but now that that has gone
down in flames, I now work in the UMTS Test Tools group.
UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications (Standard/System).
It doesn't exist in the field yet, but when fully implemented, this
system will give you up to 2 Mbit of bandwidth to your phone. (Course
you'll have to PAY for that bandwidth!)
Currently I am working on implementing the higher protocol layers of the
UMTS signalling stack into our phone and core network simulators. What
to read more about UMTS? Try the 3GPP site.
Lately I've been playing
Diablo 2.
Getting ready to move soon. My wife and I were finally able to buy a house. It will
be ready in late-Aug.
What the Heck was Iridium?
Iridium
is Motorola's Global Communications System which went
online in Nov. 1998. Since it is a satellite system
you will be able to use
your Iridium phone anywhere on Earth to call anywhere else. I personally
worked on the ECS subsystem, part of the ground based gateways in the system. What have I been doing there?
Over the years I've had several different jobs in Motorola:
This isn't my real homepage. My real one isn't so lame.
However its firewalled.
So I can see you but you can't see me. :)
But here is Motorola's Public Home Page so you don't feel left out.
What else Am I Up To?
I continue to be an avid gamer, playing computer games and
pinball. Well, very little pinball these days since the last arcade that had pinball in
the area just
went out of business. At least now I can afford to upgrade my system every couple years
to keep up with the gaming requirements. (well that was true until I decided to buy a house!)
I Confess, I'm "Just Another Perl Hacker"
