The basic system consists of two types of rolls: normal and stressed. For a normal roll, a d10 is rolled and whatever attributes are indicated are added to the roll. The total is then compared to the difficulty that needed to be achieved. A stressed roll is identical in every way, except on a roll of 1 or 0. On a roll of 0, roll another die, and if it, too, comes up 0, it indicates a botch. If not, simply treat it as a zero for calculating the final total. A roll of 1 indicates that the die should be rolled again, doubling whatever it reads. Further 1s continue this doubling, so if four 1s are rolled, followed by a 6, the final total would be 96. Subsequent rolls of 0 after a 1 has been rolled are read as 10.
Step One: Conceptualization
Step Two: Characteristics
Roll the difference of 2d10 four times, generating four numbers from -9 to +9.
Divide each of these rolls however you desire between each of the Characteristic
pairs: Intelligence/Perception, Strength/Stamina, Presence/Communication,
Dexterity/Quickness. No score may be greater than +5 or less than -5.
Step Three: Virtues and
Flaws
All characters start with 10 points to spend on Virtues. Up to 10 Points of
Flaws may be taken, each of which garners another point to spend on Virtues.
Step Four: Abilities
All characters start with 300 + age (human equivalent) experience points to spend
on abilities. You may not take Arcane Talents, Skills, or Knowledges;
Exceptional Talents; Rogue Skills; Formal Knowledges; Racial Skills or
Knowledges; Psionic Talents or Skills; or Magic Knowledges unless you have the
appropriate Virtue.
Step Five: Finishing Touches
Step Six: Final Characterization
The Ars Magica magic system adapted for AD&D
A priestly magic system for use with Ars Magica.
A psionics system for use with Ars Magica.
So far, there isn't much here. I'll try to keep this up-to-date with my progress.
