Definitions

  • Lab Coordinators: UPL members who manage the lab space and its activities.
  • Visitors: All other individuals who use the public lab space.
  • Online Forum: The UPL’s online community where members and visitors can interact virtually.

Reporting

Code of Conduct

At the Undergraduate Projects Lab (UPL), we are committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all, both in-person and online. To ensure a positive experience, we ask all Lab Coordinators, visitors, and online forum participants to adhere to the following:

Expected Behavior

  • Be civil and polite, treating everyone with the same respect you expect from others.
  • Adhere to the student code of conduct.
  • Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Do not borrow items from the UPL without written permission from a Lab Coordinator.

Unacceptable Behavior

  • Harassment, intimidation, or any form of abuse towards others.
  • Disruptive behavior interfering with UPL operations or activities, both in-person and online.
  • Violations of UPL policies or rules.

Consequences for Violations

  • Violations will be reported to the Office of Student Conduct & Community Standards.
  • Access to the UPL and its online forum may be revoked based on documented incidents and objective criteria.

Anti-Discrimination and Access Revocation Policy

Non-Discrimination Policy

UPL is committed to an inclusive environment for all individuals regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected characteristic. Discrimination is not tolerated.

Criteria for Revocation of Access

Access may be revoked for:

  1. Harassment, intimidation, or abuse towards others.
  2. Disruptive behavior.
  3. Policy or rule violations.

Decisions are based on documented incidents and objective criteria.

Procedure for Revocation

  1. Document any incident leading to revocation, including behavior details, date, time, and witnesses.
  2. A designated committee or individual reviews incidents to ensure fair decisions.
  3. Individuals whose access is being revoked will be notified in writing.

Appeal Process

Individuals may appeal revocation decisions within 14 days of notification. An independent panel will review appeals impartially.

Limitation of Liability

UPL is not liable for any actions, behavior, or incidents on its premises, during events, or in its online forum. By participating in UPL activities, members and visitors agree to hold UPL, its staff, and its affiliates harmless from any claims or damages. UPL reserves the right to amend the code of conduct and policies at any time. Members and visitors are responsible for staying informed of changes.

Intellectual Property Liability Release

UPL is not responsible for the theft or misuse of intellectual property by its members and visitors. Members and visitors should take measures to protect their intellectual property. By participating in UPL activities, members and visitors release UPL, its staff, and its affiliates from any claims or damages related to intellectual property theft or misuse.

Acknowledgment of Codes of Conduct

By participating in UPL activities, members and visitors acknowledge that they are familiar with and agree to adhere to the UW Madison Student Code of Conduct and the Wisconsin Administrative Code UWS (University of Wisconsin System).
